TerrAndes Hotel

After a terrible night at a nearby place, we found Qantu hotel and it made our stay in La Paz much better. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and heated, and the private bathrooms were great. Breakfast was included, simple but plentiful, and the young man at reception was incredibly helpful. It's close to the main sights, though there aren't that many in town. It's not the cheapest option, but we felt it was well worth paying more.

The staff were the highlight for us. The receptionist was so kind and helpful, and we really appreciated it. Our room was spotless, with a huge comfortable bed and a hot shower. Some rooms have interior-facing windows, so check that you get a city view if enclosed spaces bother you. Breakfast upstairs has a lovely view over the city, plus fresh juice, eggs, jam, several kinds of bread, ham, cheese, and cereal. The location is great too, just a few blocks from Mercado de las Brujas and San Francisco Church.

The breakfast was good, with fresh fruit, cheese, ham, rolls, fried eggs, juices, coffee, tea, milk, and three kinds of cereal. The place was very clean, and most staff were kind and tried to help, though I got the impression they sometimes struggled with different situations. A couple of staff members ignored us at reception and served people who arrived after us, which felt unprofessional. WiFi was free but cut out now and then, and they were working on it. Our first room had a blocked drain, and within minutes the bathroom was flooded. A caretaker came quickly and fixed it, but we were left with the dirty water and wet towels we'd used to stop it reaching the bedroom. It was nearly midnight. After waiting, we asked for clean towels, and after some back and forth we were moved to another room. It was old, had a broken wall, and the hot water tank and a wall blocked the window, even though we'd booked a Deluxe Room with a city view. We were too tired to argue then, so we took it and asked for another room or compensation for the following days. The next day, after we pushed for it, we were moved back to our original room, which had been cleaned and put in order.

The location was great and the WiFi was fast. We arrived from Uyuni at 5 a.m., even though check-in wasn't until after noon, and they looked after us. Jhostin let us use the entertainment room at the top of the building and brought us blankets. We had breakfast, and Jhostin and Varinia managed to arrange an early check-in even though the hotel was full. Thanks for a really good stay in La Paz.
