TRYP by Wyndham Santa Cruz

The room was clean, and both the location and breakfast were good. We asked to leave our luggage for a few hours, and the hotel agreed, but the bags were left unattended in the lobby. When we came back for them, no staff seemed to be watching, which didn’t feel secure. Check-in was disappointing too. We were the only guests in the lobby, but staff didn’t acknowledge us until we were right at the desk. They seemed cold and unwelcoming, and it felt as if they hoped they wouldn’t have to do their job. The staff member handed us the key without telling us basic things like breakfast times or where it was served. At checkout, another staff member spoke only Spanish to us, though it was clear we didn’t speak the language. For a hotel that presents itself as four-star, I expected service that was more attentive, friendly, welcoming and professional. The service was surprisingly unimpressive and disappointing.

The location is excellent and the staff are good, but breakfast was unacceptable for a four-star hotel. Both the quality and the amount of food were very poor.

The gym downstairs was a nice surprise, and there's a sauna and steam room too. I also liked the rooftop pool, right by the breakfast area. The breakfast itself was out of this world, the rooms were great, and the staff were incredible. They even did a wonderful job cleaning my room when I came back early one day. I'd definitely stay here again if I'm in Santa Cruz.

We really enjoyed the gym and sauna, and the top floor has a pleasant, narrow pool with a few semi-private cabanas. Breakfast was a delicious buffet, with fresh fruit, a juice bar, cheese, cold cuts, and omelettes. Our room was spacious, with very comfortable beds, a large sofa in the sitting area, and a small kitchenette with two bar stools. The bathroom was bright white and modern, with all the toiletries we needed. Tryp by Wyndham is in the best part of town, Equipetrol, and had wonderful service. Highly recommend it for a relaxing stay and a smartly appointed room.
