Hotel de Sal Luna Salada

The setting on a hill overlooking the salt flats is beautiful, and the outdoor deck with a bond fire was lovely. I wish we'd stayed at least two nights to enjoy the place properly, and I'll definitely be back. There's a spa, beautiful decor, and the staff were great. This hotel was full of unexpected extras: a game room, bar, restaurant, and chill spaces. The room felt comfortable and modern, with great beds. The food met our expectations apart from the coffee and stale bread, which seemed to be a thing at every hotel we stayed in La Paz and Uyuni.

The pool and spa are shut until 5pm on Mondays, so we couldn't use them in the morning. The restaurant staff were very friendly and did their best, but food quality stayed below expectations. Breakfast and dinner were solid, yet average for a hotel at this price. We had better food for much less in La Paz. Bring water if you can, since an extra small bottle costs $5. The hotel is beautiful with a great view, but doesn't feel focused on guests. Reception service lacked a good customer-oriented approach, with little flexibility and impractical treatment. The staff didn't seem to understand how a hotel in this price range should treat its guests.

Service was very good apart from during the buffet, and the restaurant's view across the salt flats was pretty cool, though our room didn't have a view. For £400+ per night, I'd suggest staying in Uyuni instead, saving £350 a night, and accepting a slightly longer drive to the flats. Our room was very small with a small, high window. Even the bedside light wasn't plugged in when we arrived, and the shower was poor. The food was average.

The salt-made double room was a fun novelty, and the view across the plains was fab. Beds were comfortable, and there was beautiful art, wall furnishings, decor, and plenty of nooks and places to relax. The spa staff were lovely, and the pool, steam room, and sauna were delightful. The buffet service felt lacklustre for this class of hotel, with plenty missing, though staff were helpful. Reception staff seemed weary of seeing customers and were a bit frosty when we arrived in Oct25. Porter service was lacklustre, which was disappointing for a hotel that prides itself on its location and was sold out. Some of the lights were dodgy.
