Hotel Pontal de Ubu

The staff are wonderful, just like the stunning views, and they go above and beyond. They keep the atmosphere relaxed and informal, too.

I enjoyed my stay at the hotel during a business trip to Pontal de Ubu. Its setting is beautiful, and the room had an amazing view across Ubu bay from every side. The facilities are good and seem suitable for everyone, including large families with children. There’s a playground, beach access, restaurants, and bars. The downside was the number of tiny ants. They were everywhere, including around the table and in the bed. Leave food on the table and they’ll find it within a couple of hours. Try the local oysters, they have a really distinctive, delicious taste.

The view and atmosphere are lovely, and the hotel is beautiful all around. The restaurant food, though, was ridiculously overpriced and had no quality. My filet mignon arrived burnt, without sauce, with cold fries and nothing else. Breakfast is served in a beautiful spot, but there were very few choices and all the hot dishes were cold, so we just had coffee and fruit. There was no elevator to our room, either. Paying 650 reais for one night and having to haul two 23 kg bags up and down the stairs was ridiculous.

I’ve just returned after a year, and what I wrote before still holds. The service is above average, and the view, location, and building are all great. The staff are genuinely friendly and always trying to help, and they make you feel at home. They even let me take a drink from the freezer and write down what I’d had on a piece of paper, trusting me to report it honestly. You can help yourself at the bar, though the staff are there if you need them. Juarez, the maneger, goes out of his way to welcome you. There are a few little downsides, but they barely register alongside everything else. Definitely a five-star stay and a MUST GO!!!
