Del Mar Hotel

The room and shared areas both had a lot of problems. In room 335, several pieces of furniture were damaged: the chair at the table, the TV stand, and the bedside furniture. A bedside light was missing, with a loose wire left on the floor where it seemed to have been. The entry light was out, one bathroom bulb had burned out, and the air conditioner leaked and kept resetting to a temperature we hadn't selected. The floor was dirty and looked like the room hadn't been readied when we arrived, though it improved after the first cleaning. The towels had makeup stains and looked as if they hadn't been washed between stays. Breakfast was a mess. There were too few food prep staff for the number of guests, so the lines for omelets and tapioca were long. Dishes were collected very slowly, and replacing utensils took even longer. Cutlery, plates, and cups were missing. The air conditioning in the breakfast area wasn't working, leaving the tables cold and windy and making the food cool quickly. The dining room manager seemed more focused on guests' attitude than on restocking the buffet. The hotel also had ongoing upkeep issues. One elevator was under maintenance for the entire week and still was when we left, making it hard to get around. Room service trays with leftovers sat in the hallway for more than 12 hours. Water tracked into the elevator by guests with wet feet was left slippery and took hours to dry naturally. In front of the hotel, there were unauthorized car watchers in the parking area. Cars were left at the lobby entrance for days, making access difficult, and the lack of marked parking spaces meant illegally parked cars took up several spots.
