The service was the standout for me. Everyone was so polite, and when I mentioned the two single mattresses pushed together were uncomfortable, Gabriela promptly replaced them with a double mattress the next morning. It’s a beautiful, peaceful spot in the Serra da Mantiqueira, about 7 km from the Centro de Santo Antônio do Pinhal on a good, scenic paved road. There are some excellent restaurants nearby, though they don’t open on weekdays. The rooms are very good, and breakfast is natural and served in courses. It was good, but so expensive per person that we couldn’t have it every day. If you want somewhere quiet to rest, the location is excellent.

The property has a peaceful, well-kept mini-farm feel, with animals and lovely grounds. We stayed one night. The room was spacious and cozy, all wood, with good quality bedding and two complimentary waters. Breakfast cost extra, but it was tasty and made with organic products. It’s about 12 minutes from the center. The roads are good, though winding, with a short unpaved stretch that had no potholes. A few things made the stay less comfortable. The bathroom was new, spacious, and clean, but the drain smelled like sewage, and the odor spread through the room. The electric shower worked, but the sink was partly blocked and drained slowly. Despite the Booking site showing four stars, there was only soap, no shampoo, and no hair dryer, even when we asked reception. We got the impression some spaces had been adapted into guest rooms without being properly set up for guests. The receptionist was kind and welcoming, but around 7:30 p.m. the gate at reception was already locked. There was no room phone, so I had to go downstairs and knock on the glass to get it opened again and ask a question. Someone arriving later, or needing help, might not get assistance. The nightly rate wasn’t cheap, either. It’s also not really accessible for wheelchair users. They don’t say there are no facilities for this, and the iron ramp to the rooms is so steep that it would be very difficult to go up alone in a wheelchair.

The sound of the stream moving over the stones was lovely, and the rooms overlooking the river have an incredible view. The room was very comfortable, and the staff were friendly and attentive whenever we needed anything. Breakfast was delicious. The setting is gorgeous, with a stream on the property and horses and chickens around. It felt like staying at a country place with all the comfort of a hotel. I came home feeling refreshed and already want to return.

The scenery is beautiful, peaceful, and very quaint, but the facilities feel badly outdated. It seems like this place may once have been wonderful, then was left without maintenance. The house we rented had loose wooden floorboards, one bedroom had no light bulb, and the gym was dirty, dusty, rusty, and plainly neglected. The guests in the hotel part also complained about cold showers with weak pressure, and one room had a leak. Daily cleaning was supposedly included for the house, but it was so poorly done that we had to keep checking and asking for it to be fixed. Hospitality was almost nonexistent, with very few staff. Breakfast was good, but exactly the same every day. Knowing all this beforehand, I wouldn’t have rented here. It definitely wasn’t worth the price.
