Barla Inn Suites

Great.

I stayed for a week. The inn is quiet and cozy, with spacious rooms and bathrooms, a great shower, and kind, helpful staff. It’s well located, about a seven-minute walk from Rua das Pedras, and the cleaning was always done. The toilet flush never worked properly, and none of the suggestions fixed it. We had to fill a bucket each time to make sure everything went down, so I wanted to mention it. There’s no breakfast, as the listing clearly says, but the kitchen is great if you want to prepare your own.

The kitchen setup was barely enough for basic vacation needs, just a microwave and two plastic knives. More seriously, there wasn’t staff available around the clock, and the overnight attendant, on duty from midnight to 5 a.m., mistreated and harassed us during the stay. He made up a reason to try to charge us a fine in dollars that wasn’t posted anywhere, so we had to take his word for it. He repeatedly came knocking at midnight and again at 5 a.m. on the room where three of us, all 24-year-old women, were alone, yelling, “Girls, you have to pay the fine!” It was terrifying. We asked to talk to the manager, but the morning receptionist said there was no manager. We ended up leaving early. The service and place fell far short, and I wouldn’t recommend it, especially to women traveling alone. We won’t return.

We booked through a Despegar package and had no problems. Check-in was at 2 PM, and when we had to leave early in the morning after missing our flight from Rio de Janeiro, they were very accommodating. The location is excellent, and they clean the room every two days. Email replies take a long time, though. If you’re Argentinian, please be friendly, respectful, and speak clearly. There are lots of Argentinians, but we’re still visitors.
