Pousada do Gunga

The place has a distinctive, picturesque feel, and the rooms were kept clean and tidied every day. Janete, Cida, and Arthur were incredibly attentive to us. Breakfast had plenty of variety and was served generously. Having a parking space in the garage was a real plus. Highly recommended!

The inn is right across from the waterfront, with some pleasant little bars nearby. The pier for the crossing is about a five-minute walk away, so keep an eye on the schedule. The local shops are close, though there isn’t much choice for tourists at night, and I’d suggest Praia do Francês in that case. Our room was clean and organized, and the simple breakfast suited us well.

There aren’t many places to eat nearby, though if you have a car, more restaurants are within a 3 km radius. The inn itself was lovely: comfortable, clean rooms, some parking spaces, and impeccable service. Breakfast was very good, with fresh items each time. I especially liked the bookcase full of good titles in Portuguese and Spanish. It’s also very close to Praia da Concha and the crossing to Praia do Gunga.

The location is handy, about 50 m from the beach, and it’s easy to get to Praia do Gunga. There are only a few parking spaces in front, and breakfast was okay, starting at 8 a.m. We asked for a 2 p.m. late checkout and they readily agreed. Check-in felt rushed, though. The attendant, who seemed to be the owner or person in charge, could have made more effort to welcome us. It looked like we were the only guests there on 8/6/21. My wife and I stayed in room 2 downstairs. It felt old, with a very dated ceramic sink and walls that were marked or peeling, although the air conditioner and minibar were new. The mattress was extremely soft, and there were so many mosquitoes in the room that we couldn’t get a comfortable night’s sleep. The photos seem to show that the inn has better rooms.
