Pousada Calza

The pousada is charming and cozy, with lovely music, everything organized, clean and smelling fresh. The location is wonderful too, a great place to rest your mind, body and soul. Breakfast was complete each day, with lots of choices. I want to thank Vanusa, her daughter Laís, and especially dear Malbec (the little dog) for welcoming us so warmly on our honeymoon. The service was faultless. Vanusa and Laís were wonderful and gave us lots of tips about places to visit and eat. Malbec is such a sweet, playful little love, we adored him. Thank you so much for these days and for being so wonderful. We loved it all and will certainly be back.

Sadly, I won’t return or recommend this stay. I came back after two years because I thought the problems on my first visit might have been because the pousada was new and the staff, as well as the owner who calls herself the owners’ heir, were unprepared. But this time there was no light in the bathroom, no mirrors in the rooms, nowhere to put clothes, and they had run out of oranges for juice and pão de queijo. There also seemed to be little willingness to provide any of it for guests. I tried to talk about these problems, but nobody showed interest in listening. After I left a review on Booking, the “owner and heir” contacted me and asked me never to stay there again, saying she was hurt and very sad about the criticism I’d posted for customers to see. So I definitely won’t be back.

The bathroom was good, with fresh finishes and a pleasant shower for the end of a day out. The pousada is new, and the welcome at reception was warm and very friendly. Unfortunately, our room was tiny, basically just enough for the bed. Its window faced the patio and little pond at the side, but the nearby road was noisy. It would be fantastic if the rooms faced the valley, away from the road. It looks like some rooms do face the other way, so ask to confirm if that matters to you.

We had a wonderful stay at Pousada Calza, right in the heart of Vale dos Vinhedos and close to great wineries and restaurants. Vanuza, Laís and the friendly dog Malbec gave us such a warm welcome. Breakfast was delicious, with fresh items prepared with lots of care.
