The Cantão do Indaiá is beautiful, and there are other hotels next door. I even borrowed a sun lounger from one of them because the ones at Pousada Riviera Bertioga are hard, uncomfortable plastic chairs. The employees are lovely and very polite, which made me feel for them given how rudely their bosses behaved. This place would be perfect to recommend to an enemy. Over New Year's, I had a string of problems. The air conditioner in my suite exploded, with a flash in the room, and the facilities were run-down. I suspect the family management may be part of the decline: one sister was unfriendly, and the brother was incompetent. Asking for a towel or fresh sheet felt embarrassing. They wanted to know why, and acted as though changing one was a huge favor. I left my key at reception, and when I returned it had vanished. I spent 40 minutes wet and wrapped in a towel waiting for it to turn up. I finally asked the woman cleaning for the spare, saying I'd swap it back as soon as the other key was found. Then one of the owners pounded on my door and accused me of stealing something that wasn't mine, meaning the key. I ignored him so he wouldn't ruin my trip and asked him to find my key. It turned up four hours later. Imagine being left wet and hungry for four hours when I'd paid for eight nights in advance. That same man said he'd seen me dancing on the beach, then challenged me for taking a ground-floor accessible suite. I explained that I have fibromyalgia, but he still felt entitled to involve himself in my life.

The beds had awful mattresses and the pillows felt like bricks. The air conditioner sounded like a truck engine when switched on, and the shower never got hot. The place is run-down, and incompetence and unfriendliness seem to be everywhere. Don't be fooled by the photos and videos. A terrible stay, never again, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Zero stars.
