Hotel Maia

Great, great, great.

We only needed somewhere for an overnight stop with my family, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., so we could shower, sleep, rest, and continue on to SP. Several other hotels I called quoted over $400. Here, the woman on the phone asked $240, which felt fair, and breakfast was really good too. I nearly skipped this place because of the negative reviews, but for that price it delivered what it promised. One small thing: you have to let the shower run a little before the water gets hot. Otherwise, everything was very good.

The rooms were okay, though everything felt very old. Breakfast was awful, among the worst I've seen. The breads and cakes were hard, like they were all from the day before.

The breakfast had very few choices, which is apparently good for your health since we can't eat carbs. The bed linens had some stains, adding to the "pleasant" experience. The bathroom can double as a sauna and swimming pool, with no shower enclosure, so you get quite a sensory experience. When we arrived, they couldn't find our reservation, and after a lot of humiliation they finally put us in rooms. At least the receptionist was very friendly and reminded me of Alexandre from the soap opera A Viagem. As Marília Mendonça says, I'm not going to suffer alone, everyone will suffer. Gratitude.
