I paid 80 reais, even though the listing showed 60 reais for a bed in the women's shared room. There wasn't a men's shared room, and I was told men couldn't get that same rate because, quote, “men have stinky shoes,” “they eat more at breakfast,” and “they are snoring.” To me, that was insulting and discriminatory toward men. The price didn't feel worth it. I also couldn't get in touch with the Hostel before arriving, either by text or phone. The house is old and needs renovation. It has a kitchen, but everything there is merely functional, with little comfort or appeal. The Hostel was empty when I arrived.

The location was really good, close to lots of places in central Blumenau. The host welcomed us warmly and was helpful and charismatic. It's a very simple place, but clean and well organized.

We were treated well during our stay. The other place wouldn't have let us keep the garage remote, either. 😉 I'd recommend this for younger guests or people who don't mind going without much. Clean bedding, blankets, and pillows would make a real difference.

I stayed for three days at the beginning of my trip at "AUSTRIA HOSTEL". It's a simple hotel, but feels luxurious for what it is, and it's right downtown near Avenida Sete de Setembro. The owner, Sr. Marcos, received me kindly. He's an incredible person who deserves our respect and praise.

There was a man sleeping and snoring loudly in the women's room. There's only one bathroom, which is fine when there aren't many women staying, but otherwise it doesn't work.
