My girlfriend and I booked two nights, assuming the place was on Ilha Grande. We learned the day after booking that it wasn't in IG, explained what had happened, and asked whether they could refund at least one night. They refused.

We only booked one day before check-in, but the team still refused our refund request. They said our two-night booking had kept the room unavailable to other guests, and their response felt passive aggressive. My boyfriend and I had booked by mistake, thinking this was Pousada Pé na Areia on Ilha Grande, RJ. I could understand their point if we'd booked weeks ahead, but that wasn't the case.

The manager offered really helpful advice, which made our three-night stay better. We also loved the rooftop pool and its sea view, and the third beach was so peaceful. The facilities are a little dated, and the shower pressure was low, though the staff were very attentive.

We paid in full when we booked, 40 days ahead, and everything seemed set for the trip. Then this morning an email arrived saying the reservation was cancelled. We're due to reach Morro de São Paulo on the 7th with nowhere to stay. I'm extremely grateful for this terrible experience before I've even set foot there. Watch out for establishments that don't follow through.
