Vila Velasco

The highlight for us was breakfast. The team treated us very well, especially Vanessa, who was lovely, took care of our requests, and made us feel welcome. The place is also pretty for morning photos. The rooms were decent but dated, and the shower was great in terms of pressure, yet we couldn’t get the water warm at all, despite trying every setting and trick we could think of. It was July. One pillow had another guest’s makeup stain. I couldn’t tell whether the pillowcase was used or had been washed without the stain coming out, but it should be discarded to avoid leaving guests unsure. If you ask in advance, staff will turn on the room heater and the fireplace in the inn’s common area. We came as a group of nine and booked through a hotel app without realizing the two inns on the same street had the same owner. They’re next door and connected inside. One family was staying at vila Cascate, and when we arrived we didn’t know where to go to drop them off. Luckily, we spotted a staff member who directed us to the other gate, which was our hotel, Vila Velasco. That gate serves both inns, but there should be clearer signs for first-time visitors. At check-in, someone named Jade gave us very clear instructions about what guests could and couldn’t do. We found the tone a bit odd, like a slightly impatient teacher talking to students, haha. The inn is on a rather isolated street with no shops or market nearby. We had a car, so that wasn’t an issue. It’s about 4km and 10 minutes by car from central Capivari, but walking back and forth isn’t practical because of the hills.

The location felt quite far from the center, and the dark, narrow streets made getting around harder. There’s no attraction for children, so I wouldn’t consider it a good option for them. The inn is small. Our room had a minibar, sink, television, Wi-Fi, a small portable heater, a little clothes rack, and a very comfortable bed. It was 5 degrees in town, though, and the heater didn’t keep us warm enough, so we were a bit cold. The shower was poor in room number 1, with very little water. Some sheets and towels had ink stains. The owner said it was an issue with the dryer. Breakfast was satisfactory, with fruit, French bread, cheese bread, cake, granola, pate, cheese, coffee, milk, and scrambled eggs. Guests can ask to have the outdoor fireplace lit until 22h.

This place is really bad. Tourists end up disappointed by its low quality, and I think the positive reviews are from friends. The TV doesn’t work, there’s no air conditioning or fan, no minibar, and the maintenance is poor. The service was bad, too.

The stay was comfortable and cozy, and the location made it easy to get around. Breakfast was especially delicious. The one thing that could be better is the bathtub water, which never gets warm enough for a proper relaxing soak. Even with that, the overall service and facilities made for a good experience.
