Pousada Golden Garden

The pool area is lovely, with a view of the mountain, and the inn itself is a pleasant place to stay in Caxambu. The staff serving breakfast were wonderfully attentive. The room TV could use an upgrade, though. Analog reception feels dated in the HDTV era, and poor Wi-Fi makes streaming freeze.

The main disappointment was finding out there was a wedding on one of the days, since the listing hadn’t mentioned it. The inn saved us a garage spot, put us in a room farther away, and even gave us a small gift, but those steps didn’t fully make up for the disruption. There was also a minor issue with the safe, which had to be operated with a manual key, though the staff fixed it promptly. The air conditioner was hard to adjust with its remote, and took several tries to set the temperature. Otherwise, the grounds are lovely, green, and well cared for, with fruit trees, geese, and birds. Facilities include a pool, sauna, gym, and other well-maintained areas. Breakfast and the afternoon snack were both delicious. The staff were especially considerate, particularly Alana, who was always kind and helpful. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and quiet.

We had a wonderful weekend and felt especially looked after during the meals, which were served with so much care that it felt almost exclusive. Fernando gave us a warm welcome, showed us around, and pointed out the fruit trees. Everything was clean and organized, but the place still feels close to nature, with trees, birds, and a real sense of peace. It’s a special inn, and we’d love to return. We haven’t found another place that gives us the same calm and well-being.

What made Pousada Golden Garden stand out during my little trip through southern Minas was its connection to the land and to the kind of care my grandparents gave to things. My grandparents were poor and used fruit from every season to make preserves, welcome their children, and give jars to friends. Here, the fruit doesn’t need to be preserved to last, but there’s still that feeling of making the most of what the land and our hands can offer. The inn is elegant and attractive, with a breakfast featuring delicious, distinctive dishes and plenty to do, including well-kept pools, a sauna, and a games room. The fruit plantings are beautiful and carefully pruned, with grapes, figs, dragon fruit, cherries, atemoya, uvaia, tomatoes, and lychees hanging within reach. The coffee grown on the farm has even won an award. Thank you from the heart for the stay. I hope it nourishes everyone who comes to rest there.
