Hotel Laura Vicuña

It was cool.

Corumbá is unbearably hot, and the reception is miserable both day and night. There’s no air conditioning, so guests can’t sit there to relax for a while and end up having to stay in their rooms. The reception staff are drenched in sweat. That’s not their fault, it’s the owner’s responsibility to invest in the property and give them some comfort. They start smelling of sweat mixed with perfume because the place is so hot. I don’t know how they manage to work there. The hotel itself is only so-so, and the rooms are mediocre. It’s the only hotel at this level in town that doesn’t have air conditioning in reception.

For a short stay, this simple hotel does the job. The rooms and bathrooms are old, and breakfast is basic, though there are cold cuts, fruit, and similar options. Given prices in Corumbá, it’s good value and well located. The thing I didn’t like was how dirty the parking area was.

The breakfast buffet was the highlight: delicious, and the kitchen staff were friendly. The hotel entrance also looks elegant and welcoming. But the rooms are very basic for the price and badly need maintenance. Worst of all was the musty smell. They should do a deep clean. I slept with that unpleasant smell all night, so my experience in the room was bad.
