João Carlos made our stay especially memorable. From day one he was helpful with essential tips, shared stories about the city, and showed his artistic side. We also enjoyed the waterfalls, and the pousada's excellent breakfast. Pousada Amélia is a great choice for the price, with a superb location just a few meters from the historic center. The rooms and common areas were clean and organized, and the street was very quiet. There's no panoramic view from the rooms, but step outside the gate and you're ready to start exploring the city's history. Thanks, João Carlos, for that warm Minas Gerais hospitality.

The staff are so friendly, and the pousada has a lot of potential. The breakfast is simple but tasty. It could be great with some investment. The yard needs the debris cleared, and the bed linens could be more consistent.

I've stayed here four times and have never had anything to complain about. It's a family-run place in the owner's century-old house, with comfortable rooms, fresh-smelling clean towels and linens, good internet, cable TV, and a solar-heated shower. Breakfast comes with local cheese and baked treats. The atmosphere feels homely, and I always walk to the historic center nearby. João, the manager, shares good stories and tips on places to visit. Rates are in line with the market, though booking ahead is wise since weekends are usually full. The other guests I've met tend to be over 30, sometimes with children. The street gets traffic, but it's quiet enough at night, and I haven't had issues with insects. There's no indoor parking, the ground-floor rooms don't have a panoramic view, and there is no air conditioning. Still, I've never been hot enough to need it.

I always stay here when I visit Diamantina because the location and nightly rate work so well for me. When I returned in July 2018, the place was still well organized and had added an apartment with an outdoor whirlpool tub. My suite was spotless, with new bedding and a new King mattress, plus a second room for two more people. Breakfast had plenty of variety: baked treats, excellent cheese, ham, eggs cooked to order, snacks, bread, juice, and delicious coffee. The whole staff were great. The TV and wifi were satisfactory, and the shower and minibar were new. Clean walls and a fresh-smelling room, too. Manager João Carlos is attentive and gives great suggestions for outings, restaurants, shopping, and cultural activities. Book ahead, since this cozy pousada has a limited number of rooms.
