Residência da Claudia

Staying at Dona Claudia’s place gives you a feel for everyday life on the island. You might step outside and find a frog, a lizard, or Dona Claudia’s gentle cats. It’s a natural, simple place, and I think visitors should consider staying somewhere that directly supports island residents. The room has a really comfortable bed, good air conditioning, a hot shower, and a kitchen where you can make what you need. Dona Claudia always had the room tidied for us when we got back from our outings. Cozy and unpretentious, it helped me understand daily life on the island.

We felt at home at Claudia’s residence, and I wouldn’t have chosen a better place. It’s good value, and having a private kitchen meant we didn’t have to eat out every day when prices on the island are high. The location is one of the best, close to Vila dos remédios and about a 20-minute walk to praia do meio, cachorro, conceição. There’s also a bus stop, a market, and some very affordable restaurants nearby, which made things much easier. The room was really comfortable, especially that lovely king-size double bed, which easily fits three people. The sweet, affectionate cats were a bonus, often coming over for a cuddle when we left the room. Claudia and João are great people, and Lucas welcomed us when we arrived. I’ll stay with Claudia again when I come back!

Dona claudia welcomed us so warmly, and the place was clean and tidy. There’s a bakery and a restaurant on the street, and Vila dos remédios is only a 10-minute walk away. I recommend it if you want comfort and good value, and you’re also supporting a local island resident.

The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and clearly willing to help. The bed was very comfortable, and having a kitchen made it possible to prepare a meal. The guesthouse and room are quite basic, though. The room adjoins the house, so we could hear all the conversations inside, and there was a lot of noise. The bathroom also fell short.
