Big Hotel - Florianopolis continental

The reception was wonderful. The staff were very professional when we arrived and even carried our bags. The rest of the place was so discrepant by comparison: the bathroom had no toilet seat or faucet, and the kitchen was locked. In our room, the top bunk's bed slats broke, and it took them a very long time to deal with it. On our last day we came down before breakfast was supposed to end, but there was no food left. There are a lot of things to improve before this place is ready to operate. Honestly, I'd suggest closing it.

I was happy with my stay. Sure, there are structural problems, but the owner is really attentive and does what he can to improve things and meet guests' requests. He's making improvements as he can, though he's a small business owner just starting out and struggling, not a rich man. I've been a business owner myself, so I know how hard it is, especially dealing with the public. I spent two months here while taking a course at acadejuc, and it worked well for me. I could walk there, have breakfast, come back to the hotel for lunch, and keep my week's packed meals in the kitchen fridge. There was time to rest before heading back to class. Buses and UBER were easy to get, and some people staying elsewhere couldn't get UBER to go to their place. If you need an inexpensive spot with easy access to lots of places, this is ideal. I'll stay here again for my next course. If you're after more comfort or a bit of luxury, you'll have to pay more somewhere else. Just a tip.

The room was dirty when we opened the door, even though I'd booked two beds and a private bathroom. They moved us to a room with bunk beds and said nobody else would be put in with us, but it was poorly cleaned, with sand on the floor, a wobbly bunk, and torn sheets. I had to put the mattress on the floor to get some sleep. I didn't try the breakfast. The price wasn't worth it. I've stayed at several hostels and never seen such disregard for the room. If they want to keep the business going, they need to give the rooms special attention. I can't recommend it right now.

The shared facilities were shockingly unhygienic. There were only two shared bathrooms for what must be around 30 rooms, and one had a dirty toilet with no seat, worse than a stadium restroom. There wasn't even a sink to wash your hands. The shower wasn't terrible, but it wasn't good either. The beds were dirty and had “fire ants.” Forget about a common area; there was no real chance to spend time with other guests, and the place felt more like a tenement. This was disappointing, and it would have to improve a lot just to be bad. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Stay away from this mess.
