Hostel Farol da Barra

We booked one night, then kept waking up and deciding to add another day. The ocean views, location, price, people, and especially the vibe were all so good. One of the best hostels we’ve stayed at anywhere in the world. If you’re in this area, stay here, you’ll love it.

The friendly, welcoming atmosphere and the people made this a great stay at Farol Hostel. It’s close to the beach, and the setting is amazing. I’d highly recommend it for a visit to Floripa.

The owners are very nice, but there are so many rules that I wonder if having their kids there is the reason. I don’t think a hostel is a good place for children. Drinks cost too much, you can’t bring your own, and the kitchen closes to guests at 11. Showers are limited, the hot water often doesn’t work, and the toilets don’t flush. They should treat guests like adults. If they want a family environment, they should either buy a house or treat everyone like family. The manager is difficult and often has an attitude. He shows favoritism over schedules, rules, and respect. We asked to stay an extra week and were turned down, while someone who had been kicked off a flight was allowed to stay another month. The owners always want to talk before you leave so you’ll give them a good review, but they don’t fix the problems. When we tried to explain what made us uncomfortable, they said it wasn’t a prison and we could leave. There weren’t any guests around, so they seemed to be trying to make money from the volunteers they hire, who are volunteering. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel. For what they charge, there are better places to stay.

The rooms were okay and the location was amazing. People there were really friendly. My only concern was that the whole hostel had just one shower and one toilet.
