Sumare Hotel

The hosts were very pleasant, but the hotel didn’t look like the published photos. There’s no elevator, and taxis can’t reach the entrance. The internet also wasn’t stable enough to work with.

The staff were great, and the location is good, right by the convention center. I’d meant to call it the best value despite the noise, but at 2 a.m. the ceiling came down over our beds. The staff helped us a lot, and we got back the cost of one of the three nights we’d paid for.

Breakfast was amazing, with all-you-can-eat ham, cheese, salami, sausage, eggs, bread, fruit, cakes, juice, and coffee. The hotel sits on the main downtown street, very close to the bus terminal, and the staff were helpful even though they didn’t speak English. They used Google Translate with us. Our first room was tiny, but after we said it didn’t look like the photos, they moved us to a great one. The showers are small but work well, with hot water right away. The washrooms are so cramped that I had to open the shower doors to use the toilet. Wi-Fi is very fast when it connects, though it dropped every five minutes or so even with a full signal. One night the whole block lost power for about 4-5 hours. It wasn’t the hotel’s fault, but it seems to happen often. For the price, it’s worth putting up with a few problems.

A real dive of a hotel, but at least there were no bed bugs. I’m grateful for that.
