Pousada Cidade Linda

My husband and I were visiting Foz and planned to leave on Friday during the day. An unexpected delay pushed our trip home back, and since we were driving, we decided it was better not to take the road in the middle of the night. I booked a place to stay and, although I hadn't paid yet, Booking had confirmed the reservation and I had also confirmed directly with the accommodation, so I trusted that everything was arranged. I contacted the accommodation on WhatsApp before 9 p.m. to confirm and tell them when I'd arrive. They confirmed everything then. After 10 p.m., a man sent me a voice message saying there were no rooms left and gave me the contact of someone else I could ask about staying. When I checked the address, it was a residence far from central Foz. I had to find another place at the last minute. Pousada Cidade Linda showed no basic respect or empathy. It seems someone may have arrived in person and been given priority, with my reservation completely ignored. A place like this shouldn't be listed on accommodation sites if it won't honor bookings. Some things aren't about money, they're about treating people with respect. This also reflects badly on Booking.

There was a lack of maintenance and cleaning throughout the place. Getting there was awful because of highway construction, and the property looked abandoned. The room was dirty, with dust and cobwebs, and the sheets hadn't been changed. There were no towels or toilet paper, the blankets were dirty, and the curtain was moldy. The toilet had no seat. The air conditioner cooled the room, but only stayed on 16, and to turn it on you had to use an outlet with wires sticking out. The shower had a strong flow, but the water was dirty. Trees over the rooms dropped seeds onto the roof all night, or maybe the noise was rats, I couldn't tell. Dogs wandered around all day and barked at night.

We booked three nights for a group of 62, from November 20 to 23. When we arrived, only five rooms were clean and the rest were dirty. We went out without even being able to shower, and when we returned around 11:09 p.m., the rooms still weren't ready. It was total disregard for the guests. Some showers were broken. The breakfast was very poor and there was no replenishing of food. By the second day, there wasn't even toilet paper, despite having booked three nights. The kitchen where breakfast was made wasn't clean either. There was a bucket under the sink catching water, and it was rotten. I've never seen a guesthouse like this. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

The service was good, and the place is near Cataratas do Iguaçu. Across the same avenue there's a shopping mall and the highway to Argentina. It's quiet, but there was no TV or mirror, and nowhere to hang clothes. My room was the worst one: no fridge or mats, and the bathroom was large but came with no floor cloth or towels. The ground needs more gravel because rain turns it into mud that gets tracked inside, making it impossible to put your feet down. The bathroom door wouldn't lock, and the room door facing the street stuck and made a lot of noise. Breakfast isn't provided, so you have to go to the gas station on Avenida Cataratas. Payment is made there at check-in.
