The price, romantic scenery, and peace and quiet were the positives. We’re sharing the problems in case they can help improve future stays. The room wasn’t clean: there was mold on the entrance and bathroom doors, and one blanket had blood stains. We stayed two nights but got only one set of towels, which wasn’t enough in the rainy, humid weather, and they didn’t provide the promised soap. There was no firewood when we arrived, although the room has a wood-burning heater. The person in charge offered a bag for R$ 60, which seemed outrageous since the same wood costs R$ 25 at the local market. The worst part was breakfast. The restaurant is about 500 meters from the accommodation, and getting there means driving up a steep road with no shoulder. On the first day the food was cold, poorly served, and there wasn’t much choice. It was better on the second day.

The people were polite and welcoming, and the place is lovely. We stayed in a clean, tidy chalet in a quiet, out-of-the-way setting, exactly what we wanted. Breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant is cozy, filled with old objects and photos and stories about Italian immigration in the region. I thought it was beautiful. The restaurant is 200 meters from our chalet. We walked there for breakfast, but I’d suggest driving because the road has no shoulder. We’d definitely come back and recommend it.

I loved staying in chalet 11 at villa Italia. The space is beautiful, surrounded by trees and nature, and breakfast was delicious. I’ll definitely return. A few things could improve the experience and safety. The lodging name and entrance need to be easier to spot. I arrived at night around 9 p.m., and it was very dark. I couldn’t see the entrance sign, ended up in front of Cozinha, and had trouble contacting the lodging because there was no signal. A brightly lit sign that catches your headlights would have helped. Speed bumps before and after the entrance could help, too. The entrance sits on a dip in the highway, at the bottom of a descent and the start of an uphill, making it hard to see both ways when pulling out. Cars can come from either direction, creating a serious or even tragic risk. The plants at the cantina parking exit should be cut back, especially for people heading down the highway. On Friday morning I nearly hit a motorcyclist coming uphill at very high speed because I couldn’t see clearly. It could have ended in tragedy. Thanks for the stay.

The shower issue took hours to get addressed, and we had to go back to the restaurant twice to get anyone to act on it. We told them at breakfast, around 9:30 a.m., but by about 11:30 it still had not been fixed. Breakfast is in a separate building roughly 200 meters from the cabin, which adds another hassle. We have stayed here before, so the drop in quality was especially striking. On arrival, there was nobody to welcome us or explain anything, and we were put in a different cabin from the one we booked. We had to wait for an employee to arrive and clean it, and only got into the room around 4 p.m. The management seemed completely disorganized, and the lack of care for guests was obvious. We also tried to reach the owner and got no response. It was one problem after another from start to finish. We won't come back or recommend it to anyone.
