Hotel Ilhas Do Caribe

There were enough places around the hotel to read or get a little work done outside the room, from the several pool areas and small bar to the game room and lounge spots. It felt comfortable, distinctive, and safe, with the beach less than a block away and the main beach road at a little distance. This part of Brasil isn’t fancy, though there are upscale places along the strip like Casa Grande hotel. The area seemed mostly geared toward summer family vacations from São Paulo and nearby. I stayed for a week during a conference in Guarujá in early August. I often travel and usually use air bnb or budget motels like Motel 6 or Days Inn in the United States, and found this place charming and much less bland. The room had a double bed, a small extra bed, and a balcony with an ocean view, with enough space for two people for a week. The bed was a little lumpy, about like visiting Grandma or an average air bnb, but the fridge and safe worked well. Wi-Fi was reliable and fast enough that we never had connection or speed problems. Staff were kind and helpful, gave us local tips and safety advice, and were at the front desk around the clock to answer questions. When the hot water didn’t work at first, they fixed it within five minutes. Breakfast was quite good, with sliced meats and cheeses, fresh fruit, yogurt, eggs, plenty of rolls and pastries, and coffee available americano or latte style. There were several pools, so it was easy to swim or relax with your feet in the water. The hotel also had a small beer selection, simple food like salads and pasta, and a little ice cream cooler for a late-night sweet snack. Food and beer weren’t cheap, but they came in handy. Several grocery stores within a few blocks made it easy to stock the room with affordable snacks. I didn’t take photos, but the hotel looked much like the pictures online, including guest photos.

There are two pools and free parking and Wi-Fi. The hotel sits about 100 meters from the beach, but the rooms are small and very basic. The all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet was poor, and there aren’t many restaurants in the neighborhood. There’s no restaurant at the hotel.

The facilities were clean and beautiful, and the staff were extremely kind, considerate, and attentive. We had a really nice experience, recommended 100%.
