The hotel looks modern and attractive, and the large pool seemed like it would be lovely. But our experience was awful. A severe storm knocked down three poles in front of the hotel and the power went out. We spent about an hour in our room in the dark, without any warning or guidance from the hotel. My wife, daughter and I were on the fifth floor. With no information, we decided to take the stairs. At the bottom, we found the emergency door locked. The receptionist called it a “service stairway,” but there was no sign saying that. In an emergency, that door should have been accessible. We eventually got out through the parking area, which was open, another security lapse. At reception, the entrance door was wide open and there was no emergency lighting. Three employees seemed unprepared and couldn’t clearly explain what was happening. There was no firefighter, uniformed security guard or technical staff member helping guests. One person was just lighting the area with a flashlight. The hotel has no generator, which is unacceptable for a place of this size. When we went back up using the proper stairs, all the emergency lights were off, so we had to use my phone flashlight to reach our room. We didn’t see a safety technician or anyone responsible offering support, and my family was very frightened. I was really upset that I chose this hotel. After a long drive, I’d picked it so I could unwind by the pool, even though the competitor was closer to my appointment in town. The pool turned out to be closed for a private event, with music so loud it rattled the windows. I also parked there and someone hit my car.

I only tried the buffet at Orbit restaurant. I haven’t stayed at the hotel or attended any events there, so I can only comment on that meal. It was a small buffet, but the food was very tasty, good quality and safe.

The storm and strong winds had left much of the area without power, which I could understand. What bothered me was that nobody checked whether my family needed help during the outage. We’d returned from a friends’ gathering at night to find the hotel without lights, and staff said some power was still working while they tried to fix things. No one came to support us. Ten packed meals for my son went bad in the room’s minibar, which caused a lot of stress and seriously disrupted our travel plans. I bathed him using my phone light that night. By morning we found out some rooms had power, though we don’t know when it came back. At checkout, the manager said she’d contact me to talk, but I’m still waiting.
