Pousada Caúca

The shower was our one issue: it worked only for warm water, never hot. Apart from that, this was a very good hotel. The inner garden is beautiful, the staff were friendly and helpful, and breakfast had plenty of fruit, cakes, and good bread. It was much better than many similar places we stayed in Brazil. Restaurants are easy to reach, while the hotel is far enough away that nights stay very quiet.

After an exhausting trip, I arrived alone with a big suitcase, having booked based on the reviews, unfortunately. The short-haired woman at reception treated me terribly. I had already paid and was checking in when they told me I had to hand in the key every time I went out. I asked why, and why this rule wasn’t written anywhere, and she told me to get out. She literally kicked me out and pulled out the machine to cancel my reservation. I asked if I could use the Wi-Fi to find somewhere else since she had thrown me out, but she said no and shouted at me. I hope karma comes back around for the way I was treated. Horrible.

The owner knows the area really well, and the rooms were clean and cosy. Breakfast was complete and served in a quiet, peaceful garden. They cleaned our room every day. We had a great stay, would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the island. A paradise!

There are nice shared spots to hang out, and the rooms are basic but clean and comfortable. The garden catches your eye first, with all its bright colors. I think there’s an emergency power supply or generator too. Electricity goes out every few days or so on Ilha Grande, so that’s a great feature.
