Pousada Puerto Escondido

The location is the only good thing here. My company arranged the stay, so I didn’t choose the pousada myself, but after reading the reviews I expected trouble, and that’s what happened. I stayed five days in a room with a really strong mold smell that got into our clothes. The minibar was moldy, dirty, and smelled so bad I didn’t want to put anything in it. The bathroom also smelled, had no window, and the extractor barely worked. Part of the shower enclosure was broken and never repaired, so water covered the floor and the same unchanged mat, which ended up smelling awful. The sink slopes, so be careful about putting anything heavy on it. The bathroom was grimy, and the rooms had little ventilation and moldy smells. There was old wood with visible termites in places. The curtain was deteriorating, plastic, and poorly kept. We had to buy anti-mold products, and when we asked for a blanket, they said there weren’t any. Cleaning was poor. The air conditioner didn’t work at first, and they already knew about it; it was fixed only after we complained. Room keys are left out on the reception counter where anyone can reach them, which seems unsafe. Breakfast wasn’t good. The hot and cold food wasn’t kept at the right temperature; they’d leave out a pan of scrambled eggs and sausages, and the fruit was the same. None of it tasted good. A nutritionist in our group pointed out that flies were landing on uncovered food, but the woman didn’t even look at her. The female staff weren’t polite or friendly and looked annoyed, while the two male receptionists were more pleasant. We were eight people in different rooms, and all of them were in poor shape. If you want somewhere comfortable and clean with a simple but tasty, well-made breakfast, don’t stay here. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. I’d asked for a room with four beds and no bunk bed, but there it was. The air conditioner was so filthy it made us feel sick, and we had to take allergy medicine to stop sneezing all night. The shower wires were exposed, and sometimes switching it on gave us a shock. Breakfast was okay to me, but we left early because we deserved somewhere better.

The location is good, but the service left me frustrated. The rooms face the pool, so there was loud music from early morning until night, and people made noise there late at night. After breakfast the staff disappeared, so there was no one to complain to, and the pousada felt abandoned. The photos are misleading. The reception was often empty, with room keys left where anyone could take them. We had to search for someone to check us in and found an employee lying in a hammock on her phone. Breakfast was poor, and after a large group ate, they only brought more food after we complained and got an unfriendly look. The employee replied that she had already put breakfast out, as if replenishing it wasn’t her responsibility. There’s little consideration for guests. They didn’t change the sheets or towels, and cleaning was lacking. I had a very disappointing stay in Itacaré and wouldn’t recommend the pousada.

The room had a minibar, and the pousada is right in central Itacaré. But the room cleaning was poor, the bathroom had no shower enclosure, and they never changed the towels or sheets during our three-night stay. The air conditioner broke, and the door lock did too. We had to keep pushing them to fix the lock. Noise in the shared area went unchecked, from speakers in the morning to people using the pool late at night. Breakfast was gone just 15 minutes after it started. We had to insist that they replenish it, and the staff treated us very badly. No one was at reception to welcome us, and the keys were left out where anyone could get them because there was no staff to hand them out or take them back.
