The beach is amazing, and the hotel is a lovely little place on Brazil's striking coast, about three hours outside São Paulo.

The pool put me off using it. It looked clean on the first day, but by the next it had turned green, which made it seem poorly maintained. We also had a frustrating beach incident: a family member who was at the same beach wasn't allowed to stay with us under the same umbrella. I felt misled because the place presents itself as a hotel, but its facilities and services felt more like an inn. We booked two rooms without parking, and there was no gym, laundry, or shared areas either. Taken together, what was offered didn't justify the price.

The beach was calm, and the beach staff were helpful on the other days. The breakfast was tasty but very slow, the service was friendly, and the cart ride to the beach was nice. Still, I wouldn't recommend coming with kids, and the value for money is poor. We weren't told before booking that there was no crib. With our two children, ages one and three, my husband and I ended up in the extra beds, one on each side of them in the main bed so they wouldn't roll onto the floor. It was uncomfortable. We were also charged an extra fee at the end, which felt excessive. On the last day, housekeeping forgot our room, and at nearly 7 p.m. we didn't push it. The children's high chair was missing, parking was confusing, and the “rain insurance” felt almost like a scam: it rained from 1 p.m. until late, but coverage only applied from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and required five consecutive hours. The first room, number 4, was large and attractive, but smelled of mildew, and the terrace reeked of sewage. The layout in all the rooms seemed odd, with the shower stall, sink, and bathtub all in the bedroom without separation. That left us with little privacy as a family, and the poor seals let water leak from the tub and shower until the room flooded. There were several drains in the bedroom. I felt like I was sleeping in a bathroom. Late that night they added another bed beside the others. We found two huge cockroaches in the room, and couldn't kill one of them. The kids screamed. The hotel staff didn't seem surprised and said they couldn't do anything because every room was occupied. We wanted to go home and asked to cancel, but nothing was resolved. Since it was so late, we had to sleep with the other cockroach still alive in the room. The next day they offered to move us to room number 7, which they called “better” even though it was the same category and price. That seemed odd: apparently guests pay the same for rooms in the same category, yet some are better than others. The new room didn't smell of mildew or sewage, but a tree on the terrace made it a good spot for mosquitoes. The windows didn't seal fully, and the terrace door was broken and also didn't seal. I lost count of how many mosquitoes we killed. The rooms don't feel up to five-star standards and need a lot of maintenance. The sheets were okay, the towels were good, and the mattresses were good but old. The shower temperature was extremely hard to adjust. The power simply went out in the middle of the afternoon, something we'd never experienced at any other hotel, let alone a five-star one. When we arrived, the staff seemed surprised that we had two children and said our booking was for “4 adults.” That was strange, because the room had a queen bed and a single bed they'd put together in a hurry. Where were four adults supposed to sleep?
