Ibis Styles Macaé

Breakfast was disappointing enough that I skipped it. The selection was very basic, the cheese bread seemed like it was from the day before, and the fruit and greens looked either wilted or hard from being kept too cold. The staff were polite and willing to help, but seemed undertrained, so service was slow and the information they gave felt uncertain. The place also looked neglected, especially the very dirty windows. Given the usual expectations for this hotel brand, I would have been better off choosing somewhere else this time.

The reception staff were so courteous and quick to help. When I accidentally got locked out of my room, they sorted it out efficiently. We had a relaxed family stay at Ibis Styles Macaé, right across from the beach, and the room was comfortable and kept clean. Towels were changed each day, and the air conditioning made it cool and refreshing; whenever we came back in the afternoon, everything was spotless and nice and cold. There was a bit of rubbish left by the previous guest at first. The hotel handled it thoughtfully: by the time I arrived, the room had been cleaned, and there was an apology note with some snacks. That was a considerate touch. A comfortable, peaceful stay with helpful service in a great spot in Macaé. I’d give it five stars because they made up for the mistake and dealt with it well.

The bed was really comfortable, and breakfast had plenty of choice. The service was good too. Cleaning could be a little better, and the air conditioning made some noise, though that didn't bother me since I'm used to constant background noise. A good option if you're travelling for work. There’s no balcony or front-facing view, which seems a shame with the beach right there when the building was constructed. Still, I had a good stay.

The TV was practically unusable. None of the few channels would tune in, and it was an early smart TV with limited features and no screen mirroring. Breakfast was another major problem: the booking app never said my rate excluded it. Who books a stay without breakfast? That wasn't disclosed in the app. They quoted R$ 53,00 to add it, even though I could have booked other places in Macaé for the same price with breakfast included. I emailed them to complain about the missing information and got no reply. Check-in was uncomfortable too. The receptionist was chatting with two women staying at the hotel and kept laughing with them while checking me and my wife in. I felt awkward enough to ask what was so funny, and I think they felt uncomfortable and stopped. I've stayed at several hotels in Macaé, and this was the worst experience I've had. I would not recommend it to anyone.
