Seringal Hotel

The street outside gets pretty noisy on weeknights until around 11 pm, when it quiets down a lot. Inside, my room was a decent size and clean, with good AC, a mini-fridge, and an updated bathroom. Breakfast was included and had fruit, eggs, plenty of pastries and bread, plus an omelette station with very few vegetables. It’s an older hotel, so there aren’t many outlets and no USB charging. US plugs need an EU converter. There was no microwave or coffee in the room, and oddly, no shampoo either. The TV streaming also lagged a lot.

We were three people in a triple room for four nights. There was plenty of space, the beds were comfortable, and the shower was good. The AC worked well. Breakfast had plenty of food and the coffee was good. Great location with bars and restaurants nearby, and the price was reasonable.

The room was lovely and very clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable, and the whole place felt cheerful and welcoming. I felt well looked after and would absolutely recommend Seringal Hotel. The staff made a big difference. When I said I was vegetarian at lunch, they tried hard to accommodate me. Marcus carefully pointed out which dishes had meat, and João (I’m not sure of the spelling) was wonderful. He suggested good açaí places, called an agency for me because I don’t speak Portuguese, and checked in about how things were going in Manaus. The woman at reception, whose name I didn’t get, was also incredibly kind and called pharmacies for me. Breakfast was a great experience too, with a huge range of things I’d never seen or tried before. The staff even called nearby pharmacies to see whether they had the medicine I needed, which I really appreciated.

The service and location were great, but the hotel felt run down, and we wouldn’t recommend staying here. Our room was 108, in a dark corner, with no window to the outside, only one opening onto the hallway. It didn’t lock and slid open easily, so we couldn’t secure the room. The bathroom was tiny, and the sinks had an off-putting sewer smell. Maybe we just got unlucky, since family members on the second floor had a much nicer room for the same price. We left disappointed and can’t recommend it.
