Pousada Azul do Mar

What can I say about Pousada Azul do Mar? This is more of a vent than a review. I don’t understand all the praise here. Those reviews are why I made the mistake of staying there. The good points are limited. The sea is about 300 meters away, so it’s easy to walk there. Breakfast was simple but tasty and reasonable, though there wasn’t much variety for people who prefer healthier food. Our first room was awful. It was hot, and the only way to get air in was to open a window. Before we’d even settled in, a draft slammed it and broke the glass, so we couldn’t leave it open. We spent a miserable, hot night with a dusty fan, damp peeling walls, no shower enclosure, and an old rusty mini-fridge propped on a plastic stool. The toilet leaked at the water inlet when flushed, and there were mosquitoes everywhere. After a tiring trip, it was a terrible night. We thought about canceling and finding another inn, but it was a holiday and we were afraid we wouldn’t find anywhere else. When we got back from the beach, they seemed to notice we were unhappy and offered us another room. It was better than the first, but still not worth what we paid. It was hot, had insects and no air circulation, and bathroom smells stayed in the room. The toilet leaked both at the valve and water inlet, leaving the bathroom soaked. The walls had mold, the mirror was rusty, and the sheets were old, worn out and poor quality. The toilet paper felt like sandpaper, and they didn’t leave us a towel when we moved rooms. There was no sign of the damp patch from the first room, at least, but they also charged another R$ 40 per day to use the air conditioning. We stayed the full three days only because we didn’t know better. I won’t stay there again or recommend it. Being simple is one thing, but this felt like a lack of care, and the price didn’t match the service. I learned to check the room before settling in.

The rooms are cozy, the beds are comfortable, and although the bathroom is small, it works fine. Breakfast had a good selection of juices, cookies, bread and cake. Elizabete was very welcoming and treated guests like friends, and a 10 out of 10 to Michele, who keeps the rooms clean and smelling fresh. It’s a great experience, and the place is now called brilho do sol.

This was my first time staying at an inn in this area, and it was unfortunately a really bad experience. The rooms were very hot, the fan barely turned, and the old beds were so hard they felt like they could break at any moment. The photos made the place look much more put together than it was when I arrived. I was very disappointed and wouldn’t recommend it.

POUSADA AZUL DO MAR is the kind of lovely, family-friendly and cozy place we’d hoped to find, and my family and I did. We felt like more than guests because they treated us like family. Thanks to Paulo and his family for giving us such wonderful days. I recommend it, and we’ll be back again!
