Pousada Colinas de Maricá

This place could have been a wonderful guesthouse, but it isn't. It feels abandoned. I booked day use with the pool and barbecue area, but everything was dirty when I got there. Since it was too late to cancel, I had to clean it all myself, including the pool. There were also loose dogs that lunged at people who ran past. At the end, the owner wanted me to tidy everything up too. A waste of money.

The Pousada Colinas de Maricá shown on Booking isn't what I found there. The offer was very poor quality, and the accommodation was unhygienic and run-down, with mold in the unit and dangerous bugs. There were centipedes under the pillow, millipedes crawling around the room, and large geckos on the walls that left droppings on the beds. There were no staff, just two elderly people, the owner Dona Lourdes and a helper. I asked them to clean while my whole family, including a child, went out for lunch. When we got back, nothing had been done. I went to the market, bought cleaning supplies, and cleaned both rooms myself. The walls and curtains were moldy, there were piles of used razors and soaps, the toilet was dirty, and the bugs were still there. The bed was broken and the sheets were dirty. They were changed only after I insisted. Breakfast also fell short of what the nice Booking photos led me to expect. The pool area was another disappointment: filthy and dusty, with no proper conditions for a barbecue as Dona Lourdes had suggested. At least the pool water itself was clean. A really upsetting experience.

Dona Lourdes was very friendly, talkative, and helpful. The guesthouse itself is huge, but the facilities felt too modest for its size. The bathroom flush didn't work properly, breakfast was too simple, and there wasn't a TV lounge.

A rustic guesthouse with lovely, comfortable beds and simple rooms. The air conditioning didn't work, but the fans were enough for us in that weather. The area is quiet, though getting up the hills to Colina is easier by car or taxi. We really enjoyed the pool, the pretty garden, and the lovely sunset view.
