Pontalmar Praia Hotel

The kids were the only ones who seemed happy. They had entertainment, and the team looked after them well, so they came back cheerful. For the same price or less, you can find something much better. I can't recommend this hotel. The room was old, the shower was poor, and the water was barely warm. Housekeeping had no consistent standards. The bathroom amenities were set up for one person even though there were three of us. I called five times, and they only dealt with it on the fifth call after I got rude. The dinner buffet was awful, with the worst food quality I've ever seen. Service was very slow and inefficient, though there were only two men trying to handle nearly everything. Breakfast was just as bad. The scrambled eggs were tasteless and looked like vomit, the juices tasted artificial and were impossible to drink, and I could only manage some fruit and a coffee. By Brazil's well-known standards, that coffee was disgusting. Even the cheapest bar around the corner would serve something better. Staff seemed to choose who they spoke to or offered things to. As at the partner Pontal Mar Hotel, they only spoke to white people. I found that behavior disgusting, especially as I've stayed at real five-star superior hotels and never felt welcome anywhere like this. We also shouldn't have to leave our room to order something or sort out a problem. At arrival, nobody asked about our trip or whether it had been easy to find the hotel. There was no welcome drink, which is normal at a five-star hotel. At checkout, I wanted to settle the bill early and use the pool until 12, but a very unfriendly receptionist said I couldn't because housekeeping would enter the room. I suggested they just call the supervisor and let housekeeping know. As with some of the staff here, the receptionist seemed to have no brain cells. Check-in itself was fine, but the unpleasant surprises came after that. This hotel doesn't meet five-star standards. It is not worth the money.
