Pousada Oiapoque Aventura

I arrived early in the morning and said I wanted to stay one night. In front of the owner, I filled out the registration form stating clearly that I was arriving at 5 a.m. on the 4th and leaving on the morning of the 5th. I was charged 230 rupees, which is on the high side for Oiapoque, though I had been told I could be welcomed even very early. I couldn't sleep in the room because of the strong mothball smell, with clumps of odor scattered around. The hot water never came, even though the tap made noise. I went to bed at 6 a.m. and was woken at 7 by guests heading to breakfast because the rooms weren't well soundproofed. After leaving the room because I couldn't sleep and had business in Oiapoque, I returned around 11 a.m. The landlady confronted me and demanded another 230 rupees or said I had to leave by noon on the 4th. That didn't match the registration document we had filled out together. I tried to negotiate and be reasonable, but she wouldn't budge, so I had to leave. It was dishonest and probably the most expensive hour of sleep I've ever had. Money can corrupt the soul, and treating people this way earns a bad reputation.

We paid 230 reais for one night after arriving at the pousada at 5 a.m., expecting to stay until the following day. But at 11 a.m. that same day, the manager said we had to pay another 230 reais or leave before noon. We offered to pay half for the half-night we'd already used, but the manager refused, so we left. We ended up paying the full-night price for access to the room from 5 a.m. until noon. The shower had no hot water, the mothball smell was strong and unpleasant, and there were no bicycles, even though they were advertised.

Auntie was such a lovely person and treated us like we were at home. Breakfast was really good, fresh, and made to order by auntie Sabá. I highly recommend it to everyone. It's well located near the center and a good price.

Avoid this place. The owner takes payment for the first night through PIX, then overbooks the room. When you arrive, she acts as though there's no reservation in your name and offers to move you to another hotel outside the city, where you'd need a taxi to get there. This scam ends up costing 700 reais instead of 460 reais. Two groups were in the same situation as us. Watch your wallet.
