Casa Viva Paraty

For the same price as two dorm beds here, you can get a private room with two beds down the street. The rooms here are okay for a hostel, but the bathrooms are dirty, there’s hardly anywhere to hang out beyond your bed, and the poolside chairs are really uncomfortable. There’s only one hammock, too. I don’t understand the praise for breakfast: I thought it was awful, with no protein, just carbs, cheese, tomatoes, and fruit if you want it. Not worth the price.

Friendly staff, a big pool, and breakfast that was fine. The place is surrounded by nature. But the beds were moldy, the top bunks had no rails, and the bedrooms were small with no lockers. The bathroom was small too. The location was okay, though far from supermarkets and restaurants, and sometimes Ubers might not pick you up. Not worth the price.

A lovely place with lots of room to relax, about a 15-minute walk from the old town, and we felt very safe there. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and the food was great. It was a perfect spot to unwind after the wildness of Rio. We wish we’d stayed longer.

A beautiful setting for a fantastic hotel, with customer service that was second to none. Juan went out of his way to explain all the activities I could do in paraty and arrange my shuttle to the next stop. If you’re visiting paraty, you have to stay at Casa viva.
