Pousada Arte Urquijo

The breakfast was charming, served on beautifully decorated imported china, and the place itself has interesting decor. Staff were good, and it felt secure and clean. But the historic neighborhood needs a warning: the streets are very uneven, covered in large rounded stones of different sizes, and there’s no accommodation for wheelchair users or people with impaired walking. The walls are thin enough to hear the neighbors pass gas and other intimate noises. The stairs are very narrow, so heavy luggage is a challenge.

Even though I was in town for business, I had a very pleasant stay. The pousada is cozy, with distinctive decor, and the staff were wonderful. Thanks especially to Marineth, Angelica, and Kassinha. We all had a great stay.

This charming hotel has lots of personality, and the staff are so warm and friendly. They went out of their way to help us, even though we didn’t speak Portuguese and sometimes they didn’t speak English. Our room was charming too, with a balcony and hammock. We loved our time here, and I’d highly recommend it to our friends.

The room was very comfortable, though ours was on the top floor and the sloping roof made the edges of the ceiling too low for anyone over 5'7''. Breakfast by the swimming pool was really good, with fresh fruit, cake, bread, cheeses, crepes, omelets, and local delicacies. Pousada Arte Urquijo is a charming place in Paraty’s Historical Center, close to the docks and one of the town’s many historic churches. The owner and staff are attentive and know the best options for different tastes in Paraty and the surrounding area. Kids aren’t allowed, which adds to the intimate feel of this six-bedroom place. It made for a great couple’s getaway, 3.5 hours from Rio or São Paulo.
