Pousada Bartholomeu

We loved our three-day, two-night stay and would happily return. The rooms were clean, bright with natural light, and had AC, decent Wi-Fi, and bathrooms that worked well. Breakfast was included each morning. The location beside the town's main church is ideal. Even so, it was very quiet while we were there, with the restaurant closed both nights. Staff were friendly, helpful, and quick to respond on WhatsApp. Thanks for a great visit!

The breakfast was good, with plenty to choose from, and you couldn't ask for a more central spot in the historic center. But the noise made it impossible to sleep properly. The doors and windows barely block sound, and live music from all around came through as if it were playing in the room. I used sleeping pills and noise-canceling headphones just to sleep at all. The restaurant downstairs closed at 11 PM, but staff were still loud afterward and again early in the morning. My friend and I had separate rooms for two nights. I had no hot water the whole time, and my room wasn't cleaned. A blonde woman at reception was very rude, spoke no English, and didn't seem interested in helping. She gave us no check-in details about Wi-Fi, the door code, or breakfast. Alex was kind and helpful, apologized, and said they'd lost my room key, which was why they couldn't clean it. They refunded me for one night, which was a nice gesture, but I still can't recommend staying here.

The restaurant is excellent, with good seafood and meat options, and the included breakfast was amazing: fresh passion fruit, orange juice, great coffee, and more. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful, and the rooms were cleaned every day and kept spotless. It's right in the center of Paraty, but the rooms sit above the restaurant and kitchen, so it can get very noisy, especially on weekends. There are also lots of stairs and no elevator, meaning you'll have to carry your suitcase up and down.

The hotel looks lovely and is well located, but we couldn't sleep. Our room faced the restaurant kitchen. After the restaurant closed for the night, waiters stayed behind taking orders and talking and laughing loudly. At 6:30 in the morning they were talking loudly again as they prepared breakfast. We couldn't get more than six hours of sleep a night. It's a shame they don't take this basic precaution.
