Tompell Hostel & Pousada

It’s in a great location, across from the army barracks, in a safe area with several snack bars, pizzerias, and restaurants close by. The place is simple, but the hosts make you feel very comfortable. There are house rules about behavior, hours, and moving around, but everything is agreed on before check-in, and the Booking site already lists the rules and protocols the lodging follows. If you’re just passing through Ponta Porã, it’s excellent value for money. Mr. José was very attentive and generous during my stay, as were the other hosts.

There’s no breakfast, and parking costs extra. The rooms are very small. We paid 240 reais for a couple, and at that price I wouldn’t recommend it, since you can find somewhere cheaper.

The sheets were dirty, and there was no drinking water dispenser or breakfast service. After we’d checked in with the man and paid by card, the room had a terrible sweaty-foot smell. We thought that was bad enough, but the water then ran out. Three of us had showered, but my wife and daughter still needed to, so we complained to the man. He said he was looking into it. We went out to dinner, and every place we visited said there would be no water that day. When we got back, the same man told us water would be available in the early hours, leaving them without a shower or a chance to brush their teeth. We arrived on Tuesday, 23-07-2019, after seeing good reviews online. This was awful in every respect, one of the worst stays we’ve had.

The room was dirty and stank, and the service was awful. They were arrogant and rude, treating guests like they were doing them a favor. If they don't know how to run a business, they should close up. First and last time staying here!
