Pousada Hippocampus

The pool was good, and so was the location. An Uber to the center came to about 10 reais. Breakfast was simple and tasty, though there wasn’t much variety. The room, however, was small and had no ventilation or place to dry clothes. The bathroom was dirty and stuffy, with no shower enclosure, so bathing soaked the whole room. The towels were old and torn, and the shower barely ran. It was a really disappointing stay, especially after seeing the photos.

The only things that were more or less good were breakfast and being near the center. The place itself was noisy because it’s beside the highway, and the bathrooms were bad and smelled awful. The rooms weren’t cleaned every day, and the shared areas weren’t cleaned either. The shower breakers kept tripping because they couldn’t handle the power use. Our toilet didn’t work, and we asked three times to have it fixed. The mattresses were sagging too, and it took a lot of insisting before they were replaced.

Ruan at reception was the bright spot. He was attentive, friendly, and clearly knows how to work with people. The rest was a mess. Everything felt dirty, the room was tiny, and the bathroom was dirty, had no ventilation, and leaked water from the shower enclosure. Breakfast was awful. It improved for a day after I told Ruan, then went back to being terrible. They kept serving the same couscous until it ran out, and on the second day it was already hard. We got tapioca for two days after complaining, but on the third day a cook said the batter had run out the day before and hadn’t been replaced. On our last day, the sausages were swimming in oil, and the fruit the day before was past its best. One of the bed mattresses was sagging. Sadly, this isn’t a place we’ll return to.

The photos need updating because they don’t match what the place is really like. The best things were Ruan’s wonderful service and the location. The shared areas were dirty enough to make me feel like a cockroach or rat could show up at any moment. The rooms were small and the building felt old. Breakfast was basic, with little variety and poor quality. I hope they improve, but I won’t return or recommend it.
