Pousada Sonho Meu

The helpful staff and the well-equipped kitchen made this stay worthwhile. They were very attentive, and the kitchen had all the utensils needed to cook, which is handy if you like making your own meals. The room was ordinary, with a comfortable bed, a clean bathroom, and everything working as it should. The inn sits right in the middle of downtown, close to several attractions. You can easily walk to the historic center, the upper town, Passarela do Álcool, Bar do Gallo, and other places. I recommend staying here.

We spent 9 days at the inn. The people were kind and friendly, but there’s still a lot the place needs to improve. I don’t think our room had been cleaned before we arrived: there was an ant nest in it, the bathroom had a lot of slime, and I found a worm in the shower stall. The shared kitchen was very dirty, with greasy plates and a lot of grime behind the stove. There was a lot of slime in the sink too. Outside, there was a strong dog pee smell. The furniture is very old, and the bed is still made of iron. Since the inn is how the people who work there make their living, I think they should take better care of cleaning, maintenance, and the place overall.

We had to book somewhere else after the manager said on WhatsApp that our reservation didn’t exist, even though it was paid and we had the confirmed voucher. They couldn’t make a new reservation because there was no availability. There’s no phone number to reach anyone, just a Rio de Janeiro WhatsApp that won’t take calls. The person replying, who calls themself the manager, didn’t resolve anything, showed no hospitality, and wouldn’t even identify themself. The inn is listed on Booking as an individual, too. This feels like a scam, so be careful. We still don’t know if we’ll get a refund from Sonho Meu. Terrible experience.

The staff were kind, and the place was clean, comfortable, and quiet. I stayed for two days and enjoyed it. There’s no food service, but that was fine for me since delivery came quickly because it’s downtown. I’d definitely recommend it.
