Pousada Carajás

The stairs were dangerous. I nearly fell three times going down. There was no air conditioning, no towels or comforter, and hardly anywhere to hang towels in the bathroom. The shower area was dirty when I arrived, the mirror was old and stained, and I was glad we’d brought our own linens. The floor was awful, just adhesive covering loose tiles, and the wall texture seemed to hide crumbling plaster. The bed had a dip in the middle because its base was broken. We needed somewhere quickly and this place was nearby and somewhat affordable, but we regretted booking it. There were two older women at reception, one thin and one with short hair. The thin one was calm, but the other was very rude. She answered our questions rudely twice. On New Year’s Eve, she woke everyone at eight in the morning for breakfast, saying health inspectors might come after ten. I was in the bathroom and my husband was asleep after we’d gone to bed late. She knocked on the bathroom door about three times, so I had to rush out. Who wakes people at eight on New Year’s Eve? After that excuse about the inspectors, I was even worried about eating breakfast, but felt I had to take some food back to the room so I wouldn’t be the rude one.

The breakfast was a lovely extra, and it was delicious. The rooms are simple but clean and have what you need for a good stay. The hosts are great, and so are the little dogs. It’s a cozy place on a quiet street, close to the beach and shops. We’ll definitely be back.

A family-run inn with very kind ladies and great service.

This was my second stay here. The hosts are caring, welcoming, and attentive, and we’re always received so warmly. It feels like grandma’s house, with a family atmosphere, fair prices, a wonderful breakfast, and a clean inn. It’s also very close to the beach.
