Anna Suites Ipanema

We liked the Arena hotel rooftop terrace, with its stunning view and good cocktails. Anna Suites is in a separate building next door, though, and its shared areas were poorly maintained. The elevators were very dirty and sometimes out of order, and the front door failed one day. The pool area was so dirty we didn't dare use it. The apartment was basic but fine, much like the photos, and the location between Ipanema and Copacabana is great. We spent a full week there on our South America trip, including part of carnaval. For the first three days, construction in a neighboring apartment, which wasn't managed by the hotel, made so much daytime noise that we couldn't take a siesta. The hotel offered another apartment, but it was also close to the work. The noise stopped when the construction workers had carnaval off. After quite a bit of discussion, the manager offered 10% off for the days affected. Given how intense the noise was, we felt 20 or 30% would have been more appropriate, but accepted the offer so we could put the matter behind us.

You're paying for the location here, not much for comfort. It's a small, fully furnished apartment, but there's no washing machine or anywhere to hang wet beach clothes. The room was cleaned daily, yet my feet still got dirty walking barefoot. The bathroom has no window and its exhaust fan wasn't working. The details felt low quality for the price: old, rough, thin towels (Ibis Budget has better ones), a lumpy mattress, and very thin pillows. There wasn't even a bottle of water or coffee in the room. The location is the main plus, but with all these little issues, I would try somewhere less expensive next time. The combination doesn't feel worth it.

I had a nice stay, and the location is great.
