I booked with Art Hostel Rio online and received confirmation. After the hostel had charged my deposit, the manager emailed to say the rates had changed and they wouldn't honor our original agreement. He wanted me to pay five times the price stated in the confirmation, and said my booking would be cancelled without a deposit refund if I refused. I can't think of a reputable business that takes your money for an agreed sale, then demands more because the sale is over and threatens to keep what you've already paid. I wouldn't trust this hostel's business practices.

We checked in, saw the room, and checked right back out. Bugs were crawling around, the windows were broken, and there were smelly dumpsters below them. There was even a cord hanging in the shower. One of the worst places I've stayed. Run away!

There were loads of mosquitoes. If you open the window, I think you're facing rubbish or something like that. The route to my room was really dark, and I hated it. If you're drunk, you could lose your room. Go to "flamengo" hostel at the end of the road instead. It's simple, clean, friendly, and small.

The place was dark and very dirty, and I felt like I'd been lied to because it looked nothing like the pictures online. Be careful. I don't recommend it and will never set foot there again.

The showers were cold, and the Wi-Fi was unreliable.
