Hotel Astoria Palace

The front desk didn't seem to care, and refused any compensation after a terrible stay. The sink leaked all over the bathroom floor, and although we asked for a repair, it wasn't fixed. All night the air conditioner made awful noise, then sprayed water, dirt, and ice on us as we tried to sleep. It was disgusting, and nobody got any sleep.

We were disappointed by a lot of things and wouldn't return. The reception staff were unfriendly, didn't listen when we had problems, and didn't support us as tourists. The short-haired guy with glasses was especially unfriendly. We'd booked an upper-floor room with an ocean view, but got a first-floor room with no view. Someone else moved us to the top floor the next day. Breakfast was the same each day, nothing special, with lots of desserts that didn't taste very good. After our flight was cancelled, we came back late on our last night to ask about staying an extra night. They said to use booking.com or come back in the morning. At 8 am, the same unfriendly guy said we couldn't book because their system wasn't working on the international day of work.

The location is excellent, but that's about the only positive. The reception staff were unfriendly throughout. The pool water looked neglected and was starting to turn green, and there was no drinking water in the room. The AC sits right above the bed and blows in your face, making sleep uncomfortable. The mattresses are old and sag so much they nearly collapse to the base. The sheets had holes, which isn't acceptable for a hotel at this level. Breakfast was below average.

The facilities were very old and poorly kept for the price, and the front desk was only average and not very helpful when I raised concerns. People kept walking and talking in the corridor all night, and the soundproofing was terrible. My partner was bitten by insects many times overnight. The AC above the bed blew straight at my head, and I woke with a headache and felt unwell. I barely slept. It was a very unpleasant stay and I wouldn't come back.
