Gallant Hotel

The location felt dodgy, with homeless people sleeping at the hotel entrance. Service was very slow, and check-in took almost an hour. When the elevator broke, I had to carry my luggage down from the 7th floor to the lobby.

The bedroom was a good option for a place to sleep, and I really enjoyed it. The bathroom is spacious, especially the shower box, and there’s cable TV. The sink is simple, though, with nowhere to put toiletries. The staff were very friendly and helped when I asked for directions. For R$148.-/day (US$42.-), I expected more from breakfast. The dining room was okay, but there weren’t many choices: no eggs or sausage, just two juices, two kinds of bread, sliced fruit, coffee, milk, and a few cakes. It wasn’t bad, but more options would’ve been nice. I also noticed English could be a barrier. One staff member couldn’t understand what my phone was showing in Google because it was written in English, though I speak PTBR. I’d definitely come back if those things were addressed.

The hotel is clean and organized, and the location works well for me since my job is nearby and I can walk there. The coffee is okay, not bad but not great, and the kitchen has a good range of choices. There aren’t many places around, though, and getting to the fun spots means taking a taxi.

For what it costs, it feels fair. The place is clean, but very basic, with no view or amenities. There’s no private parking for your car, so you might even run into someone at the elevator. Quite simple.
