Taxi drivers won’t go there, and there are armed people on the road. I can’t recommend this place. We asked the hotel for help, but they didn’t care. In the end, we couldn’t get there or get our money back. Strongly advise against staying here.

Be careful, the area is very dangerous! On the way there I came across two armed men carrying rifles who demanded 200 reals to let me pass. I was terrified and left, then asked the hostel for a refund. Unfortunately, I didn’t get one. I don’t recommend it.

I enjoyed the included breakfast and getting to know the staff. The private room was a nice size for the low price, with AC and its own bathroom. The staff were friendly, I had no issues, and the rooftop view of the city was amazing. A welcoming Brazilian hostel and a good economical option! 🤙😊

The private room had AC and its own bathroom, though it was a bit small. We enjoyed the included breakfast, the friendly staff, and the amazing city view from the rooftop, and had no issues. The hostel is partway up a favela, which felt a little uncomfortable at first, but it turned into a good experience. A good, affordable choice.

The views are breathtaking, and hearing the locals' stories is priceless. Neguinho and his family are kind, attentive hosts, and Cantagalo felt safe for tourists compared with most other parts of Rio. It's about a 20-minute walk to Copacabana beach and 10 minutes to the metro. There can be noise when local drug Lords throw funk parties for the morro, so light sleepers may want earplugs. A great place for a couple of nights. I'd stay again.
