Casa Aurea is covered in art and greenery, with a well-stocked fridge where you can buy snacks, drinks, and other treats. The staff made me feel like family, and the atmosphere was always warm and positive. My room was spacious, clean, and nice, and it was quiet and relaxing. Breakfast was fresh every day and better than I expected. It’s right in the center of Santa Teresa, which to me is the heart of Rio de Janeiro. I’ve stayed in all sorts of places around the world, and this one easily makes my top five.

I ended up spending plenty of time here instead of hurrying off to see more of Rio’s sights. From this clean, comfortable, relaxed place, it’s easy to explore Santa Teresa on foot. It’s fairly priced, well organized, and informative, and I found it a fantastic place to take in Brazilian culture, music, art, food, and spirituality.
