I had the four-bed dorm to myself the entire stay. For an extra R25, they also let me check in well before the official time, which I appreciated. The filtered water was handy, and when I decided to check out early because I realized I'd be on a tour the whole next day, a staff member came by between 10-11pm to help me. The bunks are packed very close together. I'm only 5 foot 7 inches and couldn't sit up without bending, which made it hard to do much in a room with no tables or other furniture. Hot water was another frustration: it only came through when the pressure was very, very low. A friend had the same issue at their place in Lapa, though another nearby hostel didn't, so maybe it's a wider problem. I also wish the room door had a key or lock.

The personal lockers are huge and lock properly, and the kitchen is clean too. I’ve stayed in hundreds of hostels, but never one as clean as this. The bathrooms are spacious, the rooms have plenty of height and space, and the owners are helpful with everything.

You're close to the Santa Teresa area here, and the Color stairs are just 10 minutes away. The Gloria train stop is there as well, though getting to the Hostel takes a bit of walking. A pretty good place.

The location makes it easy to walk to Lapa and sights like the escada selaron. There's a tasty, reasonably priced restaurant right on the corner, plus a market, pharmacy, and metro station very close by. At the hostel, we got great service and found everything clean, organized, and cozy. The owners are lovely and attentive, and gave us lots of tips about the city. The only things that bothered us were how close together the beds are in the larger room, which made moving around difficult at times, and the showers: one doesn't heat up, while the hot one keeps having its control fall off. Aside from those two issues, the hostel met our needs fully. I definitely plan to come back and recommend it.
