Carlos made the stay special. He baked a cake for our friend's birthday, suggested great places to eat and drink, and even took us to play football with his friends. The hostel itself was basic, and the toilets and showers could use improvement, but breakfast was decent and the beach was an easy walk. I'd stay again.
It's very economical, with a good ham and cheese breakfast in the morning. The owner, Carlos, goes beyond being a host and becomes a friend, giving you an inside view of Rio de Janeiro. It's a great spot to meet travelers from around the world and see Brazil, the best in Rio.
I only stayed one night, and hostels aren't really my thing, so take that into account. The Wi-Fi almost never worked. Breakfast was pretty sad: ham and cheese on chewy bread, which you can grill if you get the machine working, plus coffee, bad juice, and tea. There was also a fairly noisy fan in every room.
The location was excellent, and the low price matched what you got. The beds were very uncomfortable, though, and the sheets were old and smelled bad. If you're on a tight budget, it could work, but spending a little more would get you somewhere much better.
Great location, and the staff at this hostel were amazing!
