A warning to westerners, and really to anyone: avoid this place. I'm from Australia, and this was my first time in Rio. My girlfriend and I were looking forward to spending a fun six hours there, but the sink in our room was broken and sprayed water everywhere. When we called reception, the woman was rude, and it took more than 45 minutes for anyone to come look. Another 10 minutes later, they said it couldn't be fixed and moved us to a different room. We were fine with that, but it wasn't the room we'd paid 800 for, for six hours. We also lost an hour because of all this, and they wouldn't extend our time to make up for it. We couldn't enjoy anything we'd planned, and it completely ruined our stay. There wasn't even an apology for the terrible customer service. I'm not someone who usually writes bad reviews, but do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. If I could give zero out of ten, I would.

Vips has great views, but it's an overrated, pricey motel with awful service and no hospitality. The sauna didn't work properly, the suite floors were coming apart, and duct tape covered a hole. The controls beside the bed were old and defective, and the wall air conditioner was loud. Service was painfully slow, and we waited forever for drinks. Sangria was listed on Facebook, but when we ordered it, they said they didn't have any. After we explained what we meant, they brought wine in a pitcher with ice and fruit, which was sangria. The service felt impersonal, though the server still made sure to ask for his 10% tip. At the exit gate, they held us there and made us feel like outlaws while checking the room, even after we'd paid and left a 20% tip.

I got a room with a view and watched the sunrise, which was nice. The facilities were fine, I guess, though it's a little pricey. It is a good place, but not having an overnight option kind of sucks.

An amazing experience, honestly. The pool and bathtub look out over the deep blue ocean, and you can just relax with your girl without anyone bothering you.

Definitely the best of its kind in Rio, though it's pricey, as you'd expect.
